A struggle between greed and idealism fuels the plot of “Dear World,” a musical by Jerry Herman (“Hello, Dolly,” “La Cage aux Folles”). The show is based on the novel The Madwoman of Chaillot by Jean Giraudoux. In it, Countess Aurelia, engages her colorful friends in a scheme to stop businessmen from drilling for oil in the Parisian neighborhood of Chaillot.
